Hope Taking Root at House of Life

One of the greatest privileges we have at Mi Casa is witnessing what can happen when someone who has known deep hardship finds a place of safety, love, and purpose.

Over a year ago, a young mother arrived at House of Life carrying the weight of difficult experiences. Like many of the girls who come through our doors, she had learned to protect herself by expecting very little from the future. At first, it was clear that trust did not come easily. Her expressions were guarded, and it was hard for her to imagine that life could be different.

As the weeks passed, the rhythms of the home began to take hold within shared meals, steady routines, and the presence of people who chose to show up each day with care and patience. Slowly, something began to change. The guarded expressions softened. Confidence began to appear. The gifts that had been hidden beneath layers of hardship started to emerge.

Over time, she naturally stepped into a place of leadership among the other girls. She enrolled in night school to complete her tenth grade and is now preparing to finish her last year of high school soon.

Last year, after turning 18, she made the meaningful decision to remain at House of Life as part of our staff team. Today she is a trusted and loved presence in the home, walking alongside the very girls who once stood where she did.

Her baby, who has grown up surrounded by this environment of care, started preschool this year and is thriving; she is curious, independent, and eager to learn. Seeing the two of them grow together is a powerful reminder that when love, safety, and purpose are present, hope can take root again.

Friends Who Walk Alongside Us

This month we were also grateful to welcome back a wonderful group of friends from ECC Church in Stamford, Connecticut. This was their third visit to Mi Casa, and their continued commitment means a great deal to our entire community.

During their time with us, the team helped with painting and light construction projects, renovating several areas of the boys’ house. Just as importantly, they spent meaningful time with our children playing games, sharing laughter, and building relationships.

Visits like these are never just about the work being completed. They are moments of shared fellowship and encouragement. For our children, it is a reminder that people care deeply about their lives and futures. For us, it is a powerful reminder that this mission is carried forward by a wider community.

We feel incredibly blessed by friends like the ECC Church team, people who believe in the work being done here and are willing to travel, serve, and stand alongside us.

We were also grateful to receive a visit from Carol and Laura, whom Bob met last year at the Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas. What began as a simple connection quickly turned into something more meaningful, as they chose to support Mi Casa and later come experience the work firsthand.

During their time with us, they visited each of our homes, spent time with the children, and brought thoughtful games and activities to share. More than anything, they entered into the rhythm of daily life here, getting to see, up close, what it looks like to care for these children and young mothers each day.

Their visit was a reminder of how meaningful it is when people take the time not only to support the mission, but to truly understand it. We are deeply thankful for their openness, their generosity, and the time they shared with our community.

If you or your church have ever considered visiting Mi Casa to serve alongside our team, we would love to welcome you. Each visit becomes part of the story that continues to unfold here.

Stories like these remind us that transformation is rarely sudden. More often, it grows quietly through steady care, consistent presence, and a community willing to walk together.

And when those things come together, hope truly begins to take root.
